Recipe & Review: Bear claws monster breakfast bars


Occasionally, just occasionally, you get asked to review something that turns out to be an absolute gem.

Something that you had never heard of or seen before but is now a staple on every weekly shopping list.

Occasionally, a product is produced that ticks the boxes for both parent & child.

When these products arrive, it reaffirms to me why I do this.

Why I test out products and write all about them, the good and the bad.

Because some things are just too good to keep to yourself & the word needs spreading!



These new BEAR Claws are 100% Fruit & Veg, mashed into monster shapes.

I was a little sceptical. A lot of children's products out there claim to be healthy. They are marketed in such a way that we think they are good for them. At the very least, we don't think they are bad. But then you read the nutritional info and the ingredients list which is as long as your arm and you realise all is not as it seems.


So I was MORE THAN pleasantly surprised to turn the packet of these BEAR claws to see that the ingredients list was 'apples, pears, mango's & carrots'.

Absolutely nothing else. Nadda. No nonsense. No added sugar.

They are not made from concentrate and are 1 of your children's 5-a-day!

A total winner from a parents perspective. 


And from the children's persepctive?

All three loved them and gave them their grrrowl of approval!

They are natural sweet and of a jelly consistency so they thought they were sweeties.

Unlike a normal jelly sweet these little shapes are so soft, they were really easy for 1 year old LB to eat too.

I struggle with healthy snacks for him when on the go so these are perfect.

I also struggle with what to send LL in for her school snack. She doesn't like fruit (what a pain!) & I've sent things I deemed as healthy like a cereal bar before and she has gotten into trouble (oops!) so I can feel confident sending her with these that she will enjoy them and that she won't get into trouble because they are all fruit.

And the fact that they are shaped like monster parts makes them all the more fun.


The children utilised the shapes to make their own monsters on these healthy but yummy carrot & pumpkin seed breakfast bars.


They had such great fun discovering what parts they had in their bags and putting them together in different ways to create unique monsters each.






The BEAR claws are available in 4 different flavours; strawberry & butternut, apple, pear & pumpkin, blackcurrent & beetroot and mango & carrot and are available from Sainsbury's for £2.49 per box of 5.

CARROT & PUMPKIN SEED BREAKFAST MONSTERS
This recipes makes 9 large bars.

Ingredients
2 cups of whole rolled oats
1 tsp baking powder
125g of pumpkin seeds
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ginger
1 medium carrot, grated
1 large egg, beaten
1 and 1/4 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk

To decorate:
Melted white chocolate & a 2/3 bags of BEAR claws.

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 200c and grease an 8 x8" baking tin with butter. Set aside.

2. Combine the oats, baking powder, pumpkin seeds, cinnamon & ginger in a large mixing bowl. Stir until well-combined.


3. Stir in the grated carrot.


4. Mix in the egg & almond milk and pour the mixture into the baking tin.


5. Bake for 35-40 minutes then leave to cook in the tin before removing to a wire rack.


7. Cut into eaqual bars and pipe over the melted white chocolate. Decorate with the BEAR claws to make your own monsters.
