Recipe: Caramel apple crumble

Once again, with Autumn here, the inspiration for this recipe was a bag full of home grown apple's from the garden.

When you grow your own and end up with bumper crops, it forces you to think outside of the box when it comes to thinking of things to use them in. You kinda get fed up of the same old, normal apple pies & crumbles.

This recipe is so simple, yet so delicious.

Caramel and apples were made for each other!

INGREDIENTS

8 Bramley apples, cored & cubed.
1 tin of carnation caramel
150g plain flour
100g cold butter

METHOD
1. Pre-heat the oven to 200C. Put the cubed apples into a saucepan with a splash of water. Cover and cook on high for 4-5 minutes, until just soft.

2. Stir in half the tin of caramel and pour into an oven proof dish. Top with spoonfuls of the caramel, leaving one tbsp for the crumble topping.

3. In a separate bowl, grate the cold butter and add the flour. Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs, then stir in the tbsp of caramel.

4. Scatter over the apples and dot with a little butter.

5. Cook for 30 minutes, until golden brown. Leave to cool for a few minutes before sprinkling with sugar and serving with custard.

  1. Yum :) Another for my list. We're in the position where we are going to have a glut of apples as the tree is absolutely laden this year, so any suggestions are welcome!

  8. This sounds delicious - I take it you don't add sugar as the caramel provides enough sweetness?
